Seminar on improving teaching quality for international students at Kien Giang University

On the afternoon of September 25th, Kien Giang University held a seminar to improve the quality of teaching for international students studying at the University. Dr. Nguyen Tuan Khanh - Vice Rector of the School chaired the discussion.

Overview of the discussion

At the discussion, leaders of units and lecturers directly giving instruction to Cambodian students raised the advantages and disadvantages in taking over classes of foreign students. Since then, necessary solutions have been proposed to overcome existing limitations in teaching and learning process.

Lecturers contributed their ideas at the discussion.

It was known that the University currently had more than 50 international students attending, who before officially enrolling had followed a Vietnamese writing and speaking course supportably provided. However, due to limited study time, most students were unable to use Vietnamese fluently, which caused many difficulties in teaching and learning.

Lecturers contributed ideas at the discussion.

After listening to opinions from representatives and Cambodian students, Dr. Nguyen Tuan Khanh directed that lecturers prepare power point slides in bilingual format; divide students into study groups to prepare lessons before class; that during class, lecturers offer opportunities for students to express their opinions; find and introduce materials of the modules in English for students’ self-study.

Cambodian students expressed their opinions at the discussion.

"Teachers need to do your best in teaching international students. Besides, Vietnamese at high level should be implemented to teach to international students on weekly Saturday." Dr. Nguyen Tuan Khanh said.
