Preventing and recycling fishing gear waste in Vietnamese waters
From January 15 to January 18, Kien Giang University attended the international conference "Prevention and recycling of fishing gear waste in Vietnamese waters - REVFIN" at Ha Long University (Quang Ninh).

The conference is within the framework of the project "REVFIN" sponsored by the Ministry of Environment, Resource Conservation, Nuclear Security and Consumer Protection of the Federal Republic of Germany, Osfalia School (Germany) in collaboration with the University of Nha Trang University, Kien Giang University, Ha Long University and 24 partners in Vietnam including research institutes and businesses operating in the field of recycling, production and trading of fishing gear.

Since 2022, through the coordination of Nha Trang University, Kien Giang University has connected with Ostfalia University in Germany as well as other partners in Vietnam within the framework of the REVFIN project; Actively survey and research issues related to fishing gear waste in Kien Giang waters.
According to Associate Professor. Dr. Nguyen Trung Cang - Vice Rector of Kien Giang University at the international conference "Prevention and recycling of waste fishing gear in Vietnam's waters - REVFIN" this time, the universities shared the data they had collected and preliminary analysis results of fishing gear waste in three localities (Khanh Hoa, Kien Giang and Quang Ninh) and orientations for continuing to collect, synthesize and process data from all 3 localities in the future next time. The workshop also discussed plans to organize further workshops in localities to widely propagate the results to relevant agencies and people with the aim of minimizing waste of fishing gear in the seas of Vietnam.
Meanwhile, the workshop also discussed and agreed on necessary plans and solutions for the project to continue to be promoted in the coming time to achieve the set goals, actively contributing to protecting the marine environment of Vietnam.
