KIEN GIANG UNIVERSITY PARTICIPATED IN VIETNAM SPACE WEEK IN HAU GIANG

On June 6th , 30 officials and students of Kien Giang University attended Vietnam Space Week in Hau Giang; Dr. Nguyen Huu Tho - Vice Rector as head of the delegation.

Kien Giang University attended Vietnam Space Week in Hau Giang.

Vietnam Space Week took place in 2 days (June 5th -6th) in Hau Giang province to introduce achievements, so as to connect young people with NASA and inspire scientific research. The event was organized by Ho Chi Minh City Computer Association in collaboration with Hau Giang Provincial People's Committee.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Computer Association, Vietnam is the first country in Southeast Asia selected by NASA to host NASA week - an annual activity of the US space agency - starting from 2000. The program aims to highlight NASA's achievements and contributions in space exploration, scientific research and technological development. In the series of events NASA also introduced some of the latest projects and initiatives.

Kien Giang University attended Vietnam Space Week in Hau Giang.

At the program, the astronauts shared their working and living environment in space, in the universe; they shared about scientific research to protect the earth, reduce environmental pollution, and warned about the risk of asteroids colliding with the earth, as well as learned about extraterrestrial life.

Attending the event, students of Kien Giang University had the opportunity to talk with two celebrities in the field of aerospace including Mr. Michael A. Baker, former NASA astronaut, former US Navy captain and Mr. Josef Schmid, NASA flight surgeon.

Mr. Michael A. Baker

Mr. Michael A. Baker was the head of the astronaut support his team at the Kennedy Space Center for the space shuttles. So far, Michael A. Baker has spent 965 hours in space, was a pilot of two space shuttles and commanded two space shuttles before the 2000s. After stopping space travel, he was sent to attend the other activities of NASA.

Dr. Josefs Schmid

Josefs Schmid was a former NASA surgeon and physician at Johnson Space Center, Houston, Texas. He used to be a senior inspector for the US Federal Aviation Administration. Dr. Josefs Schmid is responsible for the care of astronauts and members of their families, engineers, and retired astronauts, including those from the Gemini and Apollo programs.
