Kien Giang University developed reading culture in the digital age.

"Developing reading culture in the digital age" is the topic of discussion at the closing ceremony of the Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Week recently held at Kien Giang University. The program attracted more than 200 delegates and students’ attendance.

According to Dr. Nguyen Tuan Khanh - Party Committee Secretary, Chairman of Kien Giang University Council needs to focus on educating readers, especially young readers, to understand the role of reading culture right from family, school, to the workplace, agencies, organizations and communities. Among students, reading creates analytical, critical thinking, and thinking skills, improves writing ability and helps students select information from official scientific sources for research.

“To create a reading culture and form reading habits among students, Kien Giang University advocated building an open library that is convenient for students to read, study, and look up traditional documents and materials, digital data. It is expected that in the period 2026 to 2030, the University will upgrade the library with an investment package of 50 billion VND" - Dr. Nguyen Tuan Khanh said.

Mr. Le Dinh Bich - Lecturer at Can Tho University emphasized that family is an important factor in forming young people's reading habits. Every family and parent must be aware of reading and form a reading awareness in their children, and encourage and spend time reading with their children. Besides, the school needs to organize many reading competitions; discussion, book festival.

Students contributed their opinions at the discussion.

At the seminar, many students had opinions about digitizing books and documents for readers to access easily and conveniently; Regularly update new, quality books to meet the increasing needs of readers.

Book and Reading Culture Week took place from April 15th to 19th, Kien Giang University has organized many diverse activities in response to "Vietnam's Books and Reading Culture" day. Throughout the week, a series of cultural activities associated with books took place such as: Organizing displays and introducing new books; Arranging art books; Cheerful games; Organizing a seminar on "Developing reading culture in the digital age". In cyberspace, a contest to introduce good books with the theme "Good books need reading" took place.
