On the morning of October 11st, 2024, in a solemn and vibrant atmosphere, Kien Giang University held the Opening Ceremony of the 2024-2025 academic year and welcomed 1,843 freshmen of the 10th cohort of the 2024-2028 academic period.

Attending the ceremony were Ms. Le Hong Tham - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairwoman of the People's Council of Kien Giang Province; Ms. Truong Thanh Thuy - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Labor Federation of Kien Giang Province, leaders of departments, branches, universities, colleges, vocational schools, high schools, enterprises and more than 500 officials, lecturers and students of Kien Giang University.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Nguyen Van Thanh, Acting Vice Rector of Kien Giang University, extended warm congratulations to the freshmen of the 10th cohort, emphasized the significance of the 2024 - 2025 academic year in the journey towards the 20th anniversary of the university's establishment and the goal of university autonomy by 2026. He encouraged and motivated students not only to acquire knowledge but also to develop comprehensively life skills , team spirit and the ability to adapt to changes in the current environment, becoming innovative and creative individuals who make positive contributions to society. Kien Giang University will always accompany and create the best conditions for students to develop. Besides, he called for collective efforts and solidarity of all teachers, staff, employees and students to unite, take responsibility, and work together to seize opportunities, overcome all challenges, and move towards success in the new academic year. In 2024, the university enrolled 1,843 full-time freshmen across 25 applied-oriented training majors, achieving 100.16% of the target set by the University Board of Trustees (1,840 students). This brings the total student population to 7,000. The rate of students having jobs before receiving their diplomas is over 75% and having jobs after one year of graduation is over 95%.

The theme of the 2024-2025 academic year of Kien Giang University is "Innovation, creativity, solidarity, discipline, building a happy learning environment". The university continues to be steadfast in its goal of enhancing the quality of teaching and learning environment and constantly innovating teaching and research methods, meeting the increasing needs of modern society. Efforts will be focused on promoting education quality assessment activities and attracting students through high-quality training programs and strong employment prospects.

At the ceremony, Kien Giang University received a lot of support from individuals and businesses inside and outside the province with a total amount of over 400 million VND. Scholarships from the Kien Giang University Scholarship Fund and the Loving Meal Fund were awarded to students with difficult circumstances but always strive to overcome difficulties and study well. These are practical and meaningful actions, helping students have more motivation to continue their journey of learning and training.

Ms. Le Hong Tham - Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Council awarded the title "Excellent Labor Collective" and a Certificate of merit from the Ministry of Education and Training to Kien Giang University.

In recognition of the contributions of the collective and individuals in the past academic year, Kien Giang University was awarded the title of Excellent Labor Collective for the 2022-2023 academic year by the Ministry of Education and Training, and received the Emulation Flag for 2 units with outstanding achievements in the movement "Innovation and creativity in management, teaching and learning". The Minister of Education and Training awarded Certificates of Merit to Kien Giang University, 01 collective and 02 individuals of the university for their outstanding achievements in fulfilling tasks for two consecutive academic years, from 2021-2022 to 2022-2023. Associate Professor, Dr. Thai Thanh Luom, Senior Lecturer of the Faculty of Natural Resources and Environment, was recognized with the title of "Ministry-level Emulation Fighter" for his outstanding achievements in work from the 2020-2021 to the 2022-2023 academic year. The University was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Chairman of the People's Committee of Kien Giang province for its contributions to the movement "Kien Giang joins hands for the poor - No one is left behind" for the period 2021-2025.

On this occasion, the University honored two valedictorians of the 2024 admission exam, 39 students for their excellent achievements in the 2023-2024 academic year and awarded decisions to 23 students eligible for benefits under Kien Giang University's student attraction policy and awarded 22 scholarships to students in difficult circumstances.

Nguyen Huynh Yen Nhi, a student majoring in Vietnamese Language and Culture, representing the freshmen, expressed her honor and pride in becoming a student of Kien Giang University, and shared her determination and commitment to studying, researching and practicing skills as she begins the new academic year at Kien Giang University.
