On the morning of October 12th, Kien Giang University held the opening ceremony of the new school year 2019 - 2020. Attending the ceremony there were Mr. Do Huu Tuyet - Representative of Office 2, Ministry of Education and Training, Mr. Ta Xuan Thanh - Counselor of the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia, representatives of leaders of a number of universities in the Kingdom of Cambodia, universities in the Mekong Delta region, colleges and high schools in the province, leaders provincial departments, branches and organizations; along with all officials, lecturers, employees and 300 outstanding students representing 4,500 students studying at the school.

 Stating at the ceremony, Associate Professor, PhD. Thai Thanh Luom - Rector of Kien Giang University, told us that currently the school has 26 affiliated units including 11 departments, 10 faculties, 1 institute and 4 centers. The team of civil servants, public employees, lecturers and laborers currently has over 330 people, including 02 associate professors, 21 doctors, 22 post-graduate students and 207 lecturers with Master's degrees. The school's staff, lecturers, and employees were increasingly improving their knowledge and professional qualification and always maintained their political courage, moral qualities, practiced thrift, and fought against waste. During the past school year, the school signed enrollment cooperation agreements with over 100 high schools in 4 provincial areas such as Kien Giang, Ca Mau, Hau Giang, and An Giang. The school signed a memorandum of cooperation with 4 foreign universities such as Cambodia, the Netherlands, Indonesia and Malaysia. The number of students was increasing annually. If in 2015 the number was 862, it then now increased by over 5 times, to approximately 4,174 full-time students and over 300 students following studying and working program, transferred secondary school, college to university altogether. Training cooperation mission had been tightened, up to then the University comprised of 6 joint training majors at university level; 9 university training majors in study and work program; 10 Master's degree majors. The school signed cooperation agreements with over 160 provincial businesses to ensure that students studying, performing their paid internships, improving their skills to have the opportunity to find jobs after graduation. The school had invested in spacious and modern facilities to serve the innovation of teaching and learning quality, gradually developed teaching quality, scope and training program. The school's training quality had been improved, and the proportion of students achieving excellent grades had increased each school year made an important contribution to adding high-quality human resources to the province.

Also according to Associate Professor, PhD. Thai Thanh Luom, in the 2019 - 2020 school year, Kien Giang University had 1,016 new students attending 14 regular university majors and 04 regular college majors, including 36 students from Laos and Cambodia, bringing the total number of students studying at the school to 4,500 students. Kien Giang University will continue to affirm its role as a quality training unit in the region, domestically and internationally associated with key occupations suitable to the socio-economic development situation of Kien Giang such as agriculture, fisheries, industry, trade and tourism...

On this occasion, the school awarded the title of grassroots emulation soldier for the 2018 - 2019 school year to 25 individuals, awarded certificates of merit to 3 freshmen with the highest admission scores, including 1 valedictorian and 2 salutatorians in the 2019 - 2020 school year admission, worth 05 million VND each, and rewarded 23 students with honor and excellent achievements in the 2018 - 2019 school year. On this occasion, the school also received many scholarships from sponsors and businesses contributing to the school's scholarship fund.
