CAREER ORIENTATION SEMINAR FOR STUDENTS MAJORING IN SOCIAL SCIENCES AND HUMANITIES

The career orientation seminar at Kien Giang University with more than 200 students participating provided practical knowledge and necessary skills from experts in the tourism, education and entrepreneurship industries.

On October 14th , 2024, at Hall B of Kien Giang University, more than 200 students from the English Language, Business Administration and Tourism majors attended the career orientation seminar organized by Foreign Languages Faculty. The event had the participation of speakers from 5-Star Travel Company, Future Foreign Language Center and Toastmasters Vietnam, providing an overview of the labor market and necessary skills for students when entering the working environment.

Speaking at the workshop, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Trung Cang, Vice Rector of Kien Giang University, expressed his welcome to the businesses coming to share practical knowledge and updated information about the labor market needs for students. He also encouraged students to actively practice their skills, constantly strive and try new fields to explore their own limits, in order to best prepare for their future career journey.

The workshop focused on the main contents including sharing the potential and development trends in the tourism industry, emphasizing job opportunities from tour guides, customer care to event management and the international communication skills needed to succeed in this field. In addition, the workshop also mentioned career opportunities in the education sector, especially the use of language skills for working and teaching, the importance of developing soft skills such as communication and classroom management to become an effective English teacher.

In addition, the workshop also emphasized the role of presentation and leadership skills. Toastmasters Vietnam representatives shared how to organize to help students practice presentation and time management skills as well as opportunities to connect with Toastmaster Vietnam to develop leadership capacity in an international environment.

Speaker Nguyen Thanh Tung - Toastmaster Vietnam shared about necessary skills for students before entering the labor market.

In addition to the main topics, Mr. Matt Pham, a volunteer, quickly shared effective English learning methods, encouraged students to take advantage of online learning tools and practice communicating with native speakers. The representative of Thao Dien Phu My Company, a startup with the mission of developing indigenous resources, also introduced a sustainable startup approach to create value for the community.

The workshop opened up many cooperation opportunities between Foreign Languages Faculty ​​- Kien Giang University and businesses employing laborers in Kien Giang province. This event not only provided useful knowledge and updated information of the labor market, but also oriented students towards direction for their future careers.
