JOINING HANDS TO PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT, OVERCOME THE EFFECTS OF NATURAL DISASTERS

Typhoon Yagi caused serious damage to infrastructure, property and the environment, especially caused water pollution in the northern provinces. To support people overcoming the consequences of the storm, Learning Resources and Practice Center of Kien Giang University produced 160 kg of environmental treatment microbial yeast powder to share the difficulties with people in flooded areas.

Dr. Le Hoang Phuong, Deputy Director in charge of the Learning Resources and Practice Center of Kien Giang University, said: IMO probiotics contains many types of beneficial bacteria, helping to decompose organic matter, purifying water, soil and air. The ingredients to make dry probiotic yeast powder include: rice bran, fruit pulp, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bacillus subtilis and other medical probiotics. The advantages of dry probiotic powder is its low costs, and it is easy to package for long-distance transport, and it can be duplicated for use in treating water pollution, organic waste, and dead animals.

Learning Resource - Practice Center staff with students of Food Technology Faculty packaging probiotic powder.

After 10 days of implementation, the center completed packaging 160 kg, each of which weighs 250g (including 640 bags) divided into 3 batches to send to people affected by the recent storm No. 3 (Yagi). For the convenience of people’s use, each bag has instructions for use. Accordingly, dry probiotic powder can be used in 3 ways: mixed with water to spray polluted areas, mixed with 20 liters of water for bathing or washing, or sprinkled directly on organic waste for quick treatment.

This probiotic production activity was carried out by students and staff of the Learning Resources - Practice Center of Kien Giang University with funding mobilized from students and benefactors inside and outside the school. The activities did not only help people in flood-hit areas but also spread the spirit of mutual love and community responsibility. At the same time, it demonstrated the strong connection between the school and the community, accompanying people in their difficult times. In the future, the center hopes to expand the scale of activities, coordinating between organizations and schools to create many meaningful activities, spreading humanistic values and raising awareness of environmental protection throughout society./.
